Hi All,

It’s that time again, when the leaves begin to fall and the time changes. I feel it in the air and feel that sense of wanting to celebrate with the relatives that have passed. During the Día De Los Muertos after my father passed away, I sat at his grave and people came by to ask me how I was related.  Once I told them and story after story came in about my father.  I feel that I continue to grow my relationship with my papa in this way.  When we gather with this intention of hearing the stories of our relatives who have passed it is like they are visiting and continuing this relationship with them but it requires that we have a village in order to do this.

 

I hope you can all come Sun Nov 11th 5-9pm. It’s a special day for my family and our extended community here in SLO.  We all need this place to celebrate our ancestors and to give them the yearly gossip!

Here are the logistical details:

We hope to see you at our 6th annual Día De Los Muertos event. This year is special collaboration Chef Michael Brevetz, Donna Helete  and City Repair SLO.

We’ll be celebrating our ancestors and feasting with them.

Rough Schedule (NOTE: everything runs on village time so please be patient):

Sun Nov 11th
=== Helpers/ Villagers in Training===
3-5 Come help and be part of the setup village. Come Arrange your own altar.   We’ll also be painting an old cart and making it beautiful so even if you don’t feel like making an altar come make art with us.  In El Salvador people go paint the gravestones, pull weeds and generally make the place better.

5:00 arrival and setup on shared altar
5:30-6:15 Opening Circle and Storytelling
6:30 Shared meal
7-9 Fire circle, music, art, (it’s also a tradition to bring your friends to your alter and introduce them to your relatives).

What to Bring:
A potluck dish to share that honors your ancestors (Encouraged but optional).

Warm clothes, blankets and a light.
Items for group Ofrenda (altar) pictures, foods, candles (LED please), ancestor stories, Instruments and Music.

Always welcome:
Dried firewood (preferably hardwoods)
Light strands for decorating
Flowers (it’s fine to get day olds, check with grocery store when they throw out the weekends flowers).

If you can’t make Sunday or you feel extra helpful Saturday I’ll be making Salvadoran Tamales at Casita Monge 3-5.  Come by anytime to be part of the village.

Cooking Opportunities: Tamales, and tradition food being prepared from 3-5 on Saturday at Casita Monge.  More hands make light work.

Suggested Donation $10-20/person event costs.

Hi Folks,

Every few months the good folks at EcoSlo hold a Networking gathering of local environmental organizations.

They offered us to give them an update on City Repair SLO.   Folks really loved the idea of creating healthier and happier neighborhoods.  There was interest in collaborating for an Eco Summit and for being part of the next VBC.

We’ll hold a meeting in June to start planning for the Fall/Winter VBC.
